- Clinical Observation of Intussuscetion in Infant

- Abstract
- There have been many studies of intussusception in pediatric and surgical department of many hospitals, but this is the first study one hundred three cases were reviewed. The results are as follow: 1)Males were affected more often than females; the ratio was 2. 6 : 1. 2)In age distribution, 76% of the patients were under 1 year of age and 91% of the patients were under 2 year of age. The highest morbidity (60%) occurred between 5 months to 7 months. 3)The incidence in early summer was higher than in other seasons, and an increasing number tof cases noted from 1972. 4)Etiologic causes were found only in 11% of the cases; the causes in 89% were not determined; one case was accompanied with allergic pupura. 5)Most of the patients were well nourished and 72% of than were over the 50 percentile of normal weight value of Korean infant and children. 49% of them were bottle fed. 6)The cardinal symptom signs were vomiting (79%) current jelly stool (68%), intermittent abdominal pain (65%), and palpable mass (63. 6%), 7)In analysis by intussusception type, the order of frequency was ileocolic (70%), and ileocecal CIO%). 8)In simple flat abdomen X-ray showed the dilatation due to gas, 44. 6% and phenomenon of fluid retention 23. 3%. 9)When the patient is admitted with 24 hours of the noting of symptoms and treatment by means of barium enema is done a good rate of recovery (50%) is noted. 10)Complications were noted in 7.1% of the cases; the recurrence rate was 4. 8%t the mortality rate was 2.
