Abstract
1.Guanine deaminse (GDA) activities in the cerebrospinal fluid of the normal and mentally retarded children (cerebral palsy), with the IQ below 25, were analyzed, and the multiple forms of GDA of both groups were compared by means of the starch gel electrophoresis and chemical assay of the enzyme. 2.The normal activity in the cerebrospinal GDA of the child is 1.45土0.71 unit/L., whereas the activity of the mentally retarded child is 0.53±0.23 unit/L. 3.The cerebrospinal fluid of both groups appears to have at least 4 isozymes, and the repression of the cerebrospinal GDA activity in the mentally retarded is probably attributed to the decrease in the activities of isozymes of low electrophoretic mobilities in either direction of the starch gel electrophoresis.
