- Abstract
- Eighty strains of Shigella were isolated from 623 specimens of feces of suspected patients among children in Taegu area during the period from January of 1963 to December of 1964. Shigella were isolated frequently in summer and early autumn and from children of age under two The isolated strains were classified as follows:
Shigella dysenteriae; 1 8strains2 3Shigella flexneri; 2a 42 2b 13 3a 1 4a 3 4b 1 5 1 Shigella boydii; 1 1 2 1 Shigella sonnei; 6 Strains sensitive to dihydrostreptomycin were most predominant and the numbers decreased in the
order of sensitive strains to terramycin, aureomycin and chloromycetin among the strains isolated in 1963. However, strains sensitive to aureomycin were most predominant among the strains isolated in 1964,and the numbers decreased in the order of sensitive strains to terramycin and dihydrostreptomycin in 1964. Most of the strains were resistant to three or more antibiotics tested with the most predominant numbers of resistant strains to four drugs.
