- Clinical Effects of 4,4-Diethoxythiocarbanilide (D.E.T.C.) on Tuberculous Meningitis in Children

- Abstract
- The clinical course of 30 cases of children with tuberculous meningitis was observed in the Pediatric Dept., Seoul National University Hospital. Triple therapy with DETC, INH and SM was employed in 15 cases of group A, and the regimen with PAS, INH and SM was employed in another 15 cases of group B. The results were as follows: 1. The body weight increased gradually in 7 cases of group A and B, respectively. The body temperature subsided to normal in 8 cases of group A and 9 cases of group B. 2. The cerebrospinal fluid findings returned to normal gradually in 10 cases of group A and 12 cases of group B. 3. Clinical recovery was excellent in 9 cases of group A and 8 cases of group B. Two cases in each group were dead respectively, and the remainder would be unfavorable in prognosis. 4. The side effects of DETC were observed in 3 cases of group A.
