- The author observed the feeding history and the weaning process of the infants during 4 months since May, 1965, for mass 80 cases of infants visted the Ped. O.P.D., Pusan National University Hospital during the weaning period from 6 months to 2 years of age. The incidence of anemia in infants in the weaning period is significantly high in Korea, where many infants are breast-fed for longer period than in well-developed countries and also during this petiod no well balanced foods are given. For the purpose of investigation of iron deficiency anemia, the infants feeding history, the determination of R, B.C., hemoglobin, hematocrit were perfotned on 80 infants and bone marrow stud ies, erythrocytes fragility test and Coombs test were performed on 3 infants (6 months to 2 years of age). 1. The average hemoglobin value was 10.5g/100ml. Forty cases (50%) of the infants at the wean- ing period (19 cases were the age between 6 month to 1 yr., and 21 cases the age between 1 to 2 yrs.) were anemia of Mb. level below 10.5ml. and twenty-four cases (31.3%) the Hb. leveL below 10.0g/100ml. 2. For the treatment of those 10 cases of anemic infants during this weaning period, the iron preparation (chiefly ferrous fumarate) was given and the result showed increase in the Hb. level and reticulocytes.
