Clinical Observation on Rheumatic Fever

Abstract
One hundred and fifteen cases of rheumatic fever were observed at the Pediatric Department of National Medical Centerin Seoul, Korea, during the fifteen years, from Sept., 1958 to Aug., 1973. The following results were obtained. 1.37.5% of the total cases were acute rheumatic fever and 62.6% chronic heart disease. 2.The highest age incidence in children occured between the ages of 6 to 15 years, which accounted for about 96.5% of total .rheumatic fever patients. 3.Female children were predominant in sex incidence. 4.The highest seasonal incidence was in winter and. spring. 5.Major elinical manifestations were as follows; a.Carditis 63.4% b.Polyarthritis 48.4% c.Chorea 10.5% d.Erythema marginatum 19.5% e. Subcutaneous nodule 9.5% 6.The highest distribution of rheumatic heart diseases were mitral valulitis and aortic valvular diseases, which accounted for about 80.3% of total rheumatic heart disease. 7. ASO titer and ESR were elevated in the most cases of rheumatic fever. 8) The average days of hospitalization were between the 16 to 60 days, which accounted for about 76% of total rheumatic fever patients.
