- Abstract
- The clinical and hematological examination were performed on 21 ITP in childhood at the
Department of Pediatrics of N.M.C. during the period of 1958 to Aug. 1972. RESULTS
1. The highest incidence was noted aged 4 to 8 years and there was no significant sex predominance.
2. Among the 297cases representing purpura of various causes, ITP was 21 cases(7%).
3. The seasonal peak incidence showed on March to May.
4. In most of cases, antecedent illness could not be found and chief complaints were epistaxis,
petechia, purpura and ecchymosis.
5. Thrombocytopenia was seen in all cases and anemia and leukocytosis in almost all the cases.
6. Increased megakaryocytes; erythropoietic activity and eosinophils were seen on bone marrow
examination.
7. There was no cases of splenectomy and we obtained good results with conservative treatment.
8- 2cases were expired.
