Abstract
Eight of pediatric diabetes insipidus, who have been admitted and treated at Department of Pediatrics in Severance Hospital from Jan. I960 to Dec. 1971, were summarized as follows. 1. Male to female ratio was 3:1. 2. Seven out of 8 cases were between 8 to 10 year of age. 3. Etiologic causes were 2 cases of idiopathic, 2 of craniopharyngioma, 2 of skull fracture and 2 of psychogenic in origin. 4. Urine specific gravity was below 1. 005 in all cases. Urine output was 4 to 9 liters per day. 5. Skull X-ray showed 2 cases of calcification with the diagnosis of craniopharyngioma and 2 cases of basal fracture by trauma. 6. Hickey-Hare test showed typical pattern in cases of idiopathic and in 2 cases of trauma. 7. Oral chlorpropamide is recommended for the medical treatment in diabetes insipidus rather than pitressin injection.
