- Leukemia in Childhood with Mediastinal Masses

- Abstract
- Six cases o£ acute leukemia with mediastinal masses are reported with a review of relevant literature..
Out of 105 patients wi h leukemia who had been admitted to the Department of Pediatrics, Seoul.
National University Hospital for the last 6 years, six cases had huge mediastinal masses on the chest
x-ray examination. In 3 of them the masses were located in the anterior mediastinum, suggesting
enlargement of the thymus. On admission these cases had more or less severe dyspnea and facial edema,,
and 2 of them were initally suspected as heart failure and osteomyelitis respectively. All of the 6.
cases were acute lymphocytic leukemia and treated with combinations of prednisolone, 6-mercaptcpurine^
metho
trexate and vincristine, showing remarkable improvement of clinical features in a few days.
