- Abstract
- The clinical spectrum of the diarrhea in pediatracs is wide indeed, and consequently, its pathogenicity and therapy for the specific care are likewise widely publicized and published. Park’s work in 1961 and his article on fluid therpy which appeared in the KM A. Science section (1968) are the representative o£ the continuing endeavor for the better understanding of the infantile and childhood diarrhea in Korea. Our present study was undertaken and clinical efforts channelled into the parenteral aspects in order to systematize the therapeutic approach to the outpatient diarrhea control. One hundred new patients were selected for whom the following provisions were satisfied: 1.All presented with acute onset of diarrhea. 2.All lacked classical symptomatology of specific bacterial/viral enteritis. 3. All did not qualify for acute admission status. These were placed on the Double Blind therapy o£ non-specific supportive regimen, and the Sulfa & broad spectrum antibiotics treated group. The results seem to support the parenteral nature of the diarrhea. The recommendations based on the present clinical conclusions and the outpatient facilities and the specific circumstances under which the therapy is possible are made as a practical compromise with a humbleyet fervent hope that one day the best possible diagnostic service and inpatient comfort could be rendered to each diarrheal patient.
