- Abstract
- 170 cases of hematologic disorders in children who were admitted to Dept, of Ped., St. Mary’s
Hospital from Jan. 1963 to Aug. 1971 were analysed clinically. The 170 included 118 males and 52
females.
The results were as follows:
1. The age incidence of leukemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (I.T.P.), anaphylactoid purpura
and iron deficiency anemia were 3〜5 years, under 5 years, 3〜9 years and under 3 years respectively. Males were affected more frequently than females in all except aplastic anemia.
2. In 170 cases, anemia was the most common disease followed by leukemia, anaphylactoid purpura,.
I. T. P. and hemophilia in order.
3. In leukemia acute type was 97. 5%, which revealed in lymphocytic (57. 5%), myelocytic (40%)
and monocytic (2.5%). The remaining 1 case was chronic myelocytic leukemia. Iron deficiency
anemia was especially prevalent in anemia.
4. Most of leukemia patients complained of pallor, fever, general malaise, hemorrhage, petechiae
and bone or joint pain. In I.T.P. and anaphylactoid purpura, the main clinical findings were purpuric
manifestations associated with epistaxis, fever and arthralgia in order of frequency in I.T.P., whereas
abdominal pain, arthralgia and bloody stool were more common in anaphylactoid purpura.
5. In laboratory findings, hemoglobin values of leukemia and aplastic anemia were 4〜8 gm% and
under 4 gm% respectively. The leukocyte count was variable but the tendency of leukocytosis was found in two third of cases of leukemia, of which 11 cases (28.2%) above 50, 000/ca. mm. and leukopenia belew 5, 000/cu.mm.
were found in all aplastic anemia except 1 case.
