Abstract
Four cases of chemical pneumonitis in children which had been observed at St. Mary’s Hospital from Jun. 1968 to Dec. 1968, were reviewed with the following results. 1.Three cases of them were male and the rest one was female. 2.Most cases were under three years of age who were apt to swallow poisonous substances. This age incidence was related to the natural curiosity and inexperience of these children. 3.The intervals between the estimated ingestion of hydrocarbon substances and the time when they were brought to the hospital were ranged 20 min. to 2 hours. 4.The chief complaints by their parents were high fever, dyspnea, irritability, chest pain and coma with episode of ingestion of hydrocarbon substances. 5.In three cases, lung infiltration on roentgenogram nearly cleared within ten days after episode of ingestion. Review of literatature was also given briefly.
