A Clinical Study on 60 Cases of the Tuberculous Pleurisy in Korean Children

Abstract
A clinical study was carried on 60 patients with tuberculous pleurisy treated at the Pediatric Department of Wonju Union Christian Hospital from January 1, 1960 to March 31,1969. The following resits were obtained. 1)Age and sex incidence: 66. 6% were between the age of 3 and 12 years; 36. 6% were between the age of 6~12 years old. Sex ratio male to female was 3:1. 2)Seasonal incidence: 48. 3% were observed during summer. 3)Symptoms on admission in order were fever, cough, abdominal pain, chest pain, anorexia, etc., 4)Symptom-duration under 2 weeks was 41. 6%, and over 3 weeks 43. 3%. 5)In 10% of the 60 cases, we found the history of family contact. 6)The site of effusion was 60% on the right, 30% on the left and 3. 3% on both sides. 7) O-T skin was positive in two thirds of the cases. 8) "In treatment INH, PAS and SM were used with or without predinsolone, Steroid group (21 cases) showed more rapid disappearance of fluid than non-steroid group in 3 weeks. There was no death observed.
