Statistical Studies on Pediatric Emergency Room Patients

Abstract
Four thousand one hundred and eighty four pediatric cases were seen in the emergency room at Kyung Pook National University Hospital between Aug. 1, 1959 and July 31,1969. Various statistical analyses were performed. The results were as follows: 1)Eighteen point nine percent of the patients were less than 15 years of age. The male to female ratio was 2 : 1(2775 : 1409). The number of emergency room patients tended to increase each year, being greatest during June, July, and September. One third of these patients were less than 3 years of age. 2)Distribution of cases by diagnosis was as follows; accidents 23%, infectious disease 18.2%, respiratory illness 14. l%t neurologic conditions 8.4%, and gastrointestinal disorders 7. 5% (listed respectively in decreasing order of frequency). 3)Yearly, Monthly and age distribution of each disease group were analyzed as shown in table 1~8 4)The most popular time of visiting the emergeny room was between 4 and 8 pm, at which time about one third of the patients were seen.
