Abstract
Changes in the levels of lactic dehydrogenase activity in sera and cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F.) were invest- igated in pediatric diseases which included 10 cases of normal children, 28 cases of encephalitis and 5 cases of tuberculous meningitis. Normal values for the 10 cases were found to bs almost similar to those reported by other Authors. The 11 cases of encephalitis in comatous state showed markedly increased levels in both serum and CSF, but another 11 cases of encephalitis in non-comatous state and 5 cases of tubercluous meningitis showed slight increase in the LDH levels, but the 11 cases of encephalitis in non-comatous state showed significantly increased level in C3F. Increased levels of LDH activity in acme stage of the encephalitis patients showed fall toward the recovery stages. Apparently there existed no relationship in the LDH activity between the sera and CSF in patients with encephalitis and tuberculous meningitis.
