Abstract
Congenital malformations are known as a major cause of perinatal death. But the causes and Mechanisms of malformations ae still not understood in many cases. So, a clinical stduy was one about congenital malformaions on 8,584 deliveries a Haesung Hospital during the period of 5 and 7/12years from Jan. 1, 1985 to Jul. 31, 1990. The results were as follows: 1) The incidence of congenial malformaions among 8,584 deliveries was 2.6% (2.6% among live births and 7.1% among stillbirths). 2) The incidence of congenital malformations was 2.8% for male and 2.5% for female 3) The incidence of congenital malformations among the babies, below 2,500g of birth weight was 7.0% , between 2,500g and 3,999g was 2.2% and over 4,000g was 2.7%. 4) The incidence of congenital malformations among th babies, below 32 weeks of gestational age was 8.4%, between 32 weeks and 36 weeks was 4.5% between 37 weeks and 41 weeks was 2.4% and over 42 weeks was 3.1%. 5) The babies born to mothers younger than 20 years of age had malformations in 5.3%, mothrs aged between 20years and 30 yeas delivered malformed babies in 2.6% and older than 35 years delivered malformed babies in 6.3%. 6) The indidence of congenital malformations according to Apga score among the live births, between 0 and 3 was 11.9%, between 4 and 6 was 5.5% and between 7 and 10 was 2.2%. 7) Among 226 malformd babies, 26 babies (11.5%) hd more than one malformation. To congenital malformation among malformed babies was most frequent (73.1%). 8) The systems of ongenital malformations in order of frequncy were as follows; The musculoskeletal system (23.4%), the ski and soft tissue (21.8%), th cardiovascular system (21.4%), the digestive system (15.5%), the geniourinary system (9.5%), the entral nervous system (7.5%), and the respiratory system (0.8%).
