Abstract |
A review of Thyroid function tests was performed on 32 children with Down syndrome confirmed by cytogenetic examination at the Dept. of Pediatrics, Kwangju Christian Hospital from Jan.1989 to Feb.1990.
1) Twenty among 32 children with Down syndrome were male, with the sex ratio being 1.7 : 1. Their ages ranged from 3 days to 5 years, with the mean age of 14.2 months, the majority(5 3.1%) being between 1 month to 1 year. The most frequent Karyotype found in Down syndrome was 21-trisomy(97%), followed by Translocation(3%).
2) The two cases of hypothyroidism(6.3%) and four cases of compensated hypothyroidism (12.5%) were revealed. Thyroid autoantibodies were detected in 2 cases(6.3%) with Down syndrome. |
