Abstract
In order to assess accuracy of cross-sectional echocardiographic measurements of coronary arterial dimension, measured values of coronary arterial dimensions by cross-sectional echocardiography were compared with the angiographic results. Twenty eight patients with Kawasaki diseas (male: female= 3:1, age range, 7 months-8 years) were studied by both coronary arteriography and crossleft anterior descending coronary artery, and left circumflex coronary artery) were selected for comparison. Selective coronary arteriography were successfully carried out in all patients without significant complications and all sties were measured from angiography. The echocardiographic measurements but the measurement of left circumflex artery was not possible in five patients. The diameters of coronary arteries measured by echocardiography showed significant linearcorrelation with values obtained by angiography in all sites. The R values between two measurements in the left main and the left anterior descending artery were 0.90 and 0.82 respectively. In general, diameters determined by echocardiography were slightly less than values obtained by angiography. In summary, the measurement of coronary arterial dimensions by cross-sectional echocardiography compared favorably with angiographic results. However the cross-sectional echocardiography may underestimate the dimensions.
