Abstract |
Clinical study was performed prospectively on 63 cases of chest pain who had been visited to
Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, Yeungnam University during the period of three years
from March, 1987 to February, 1990.
The results were as follows:
1) Chest pain was most common in the age group of 10 to 12 years old as whole and the ratio of
male to female was 3.5:1.
2) The most common cause of chest pain was idiopathic (47%). Other causes were gastrointestinal
disease (21%), cardiovascular disesase (13%), hyperventilation syndrome (10%), costochondritis (3%),
pneumonia (3%), pleurodynia (3%).
3) The most common clinical features of chest pain were 1~6 months (33%) in the course, above
6 attacks (71%) in episode, daily or more often (49%) in freqeuncy, left precordium (48%) in location,
1 〜5 minutes (44%) in duration, dull (51%) in quality, none (90%) in radiation.
4) Majority patients (88—SO%) with chest pain did’t show the serious underlying disease on
past-medical and family history.
5) Of 63 patients, 48 cases (76%) were did’t show abnormal laboratory test results.
6) Of 47 cases whom followed up, 33 cases (70%) had no chest pain within 4 weeks and 5 cases (11%)
within 4—8 weeks but 9 cases (19%) had chest pain over 8 weeks. |
