Abstract |
A clinical evaluation of gastric juice culture was done on 545 newborn at the N.M.C. Jan. 1st 1985
and Dec. 31, 1986.
The results were as follows;
1) There were no significant statistic difference of biπh weight, gestational age, maternal age,
labor duration, delivery type and duration of rupture of membrane between gastric juice culture
positive and negative groups.
2) Apgar score after 1 minute was lower in positive culture group than negative group.
3) Newborn perinatal infection rate was 3.9% on negative culture group but 11.5% on positive
culture group, which show statistic significancy.
4) Organisms of blood, urine & CSF are same as those of G-J culture: 29.6%
5) Organisms of gastric guice culture were Acinetobacter, E. coli, Enterobacter, Pseudomonas,
Serratia, staphylococcus etc.
6) Perinatal infection rate was higher in complicated obstetric factors (Prematurity, asphyxia,
maternal fever or chorioamnionitis, SPROM> 24 hr) and in gastric juice culture positive group than
