Abstract |
We report 7 cases of Group B streptococcal meningitis and sepsis. Six of the patients were admitted
to the Department of Pediatrics, Severance Hospital and Youngdong Severance Hospital in 1986 and
one was admitted in 1979. The age of onset ranged from 10 to 34 days of age and all were cases of
late onset. The Clinical findings were fever, seizure, poor feeding, jaundice, lethargy, irritability, etc.
On admission the CSF values of this group were: Cell, 700〜9300/cu mm, Sugar, 0〜34 mg%, Protein,
40〜800 mg%. Group B beta hemolytic streptococci were grown in the blood and CSF cultures of all
7 cases. During treatment 2 of the patients had a relaps but recovered after changing antibiotics. One
of the patients was readmitted 3 days after discharge but 2 days later the fever subsided. Two patients
expired the day after admission due to septic shock. Neurologic sequela such as the absence of the
blinking reflex developed in 1 cases. |
