Abstract
The relative prominece of certain clinical manifestations in persons infected with salmonella forms the basis for designation of several clinical syndromes: enterocolitis (gastroenteritis), enteric fever, bacteremia, localized infection, and the chronic enteric or urinary carrier state. Enteric fever is clinical syndrome produced classically by S. typhi and also at times by S. paratyphi A, S. schottmuel- leri (formerly paratyphi B), and S. hirschfeldii (formerly paratyphi C). Thyphoid fever, enteric fever produced by S. typhi, is a severe prolonged disease with a high rate of complications. The authors experionced a case of typhoid fever complicated with empyema of gall bladder in a 6-year-old male patient. Adult fist sized, thick walled, hyperemic, pus contained gall bladder was confirmed by explor- olaparotomy. And Salmonella serogroup D was identified from blood culture and pus in gall bladder. We also reviewed the literature briefly.
Key Words: Typhoid fever, Salmonella typhi, Empyema of Gall Bladder
