Abstract |
Total 460 cases of benign and malignant tumors below 20 years of age who admitted to Kyung Hee University Hospital for 5 years from January 1980 to December 1984 were clinically analized and the following results were obtained.1) Among 460 benign and malignant tumors, malignant tumors were 201 cases(43.7%)
and benign tumors were 259 cases(56.3%). 2) The male to female incidence ratio was 1.3 J 1 in malignant tumors, and 1 : L3 in benign tumors, but 1 : 1 in total number of tumors. 3) In age distribution of malignant tumors, the group of below 5 years of age showed more common than the others age groups.
4) Among the 201 malignant tumors, the most common malignant tumor was the CNS tumors(29.8%), and next was leukemia(23.9%), lymphoma(8.4%), bone tumor (8.4%), and neuroblastoma (7.0%).
5) The tumors occuring in the skin or soft tissue showed the most common among the benign tumors.
6) In CNS tumors, supratentorial tumors were 36 cases(60.0%), infratentorial tumors 20 cases(33.3%), and
spinal tumors 4 cases(6.7%). 7) According to histopathology of the malignant, the mostcommon type was astrocytoma (45.5%) in the CNS tumor, ALL(58.3%) in the leukemia, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma(82.4%)
in the lymphoma, and osteogenic sarcoma (64.7%) in the bone tumor.
