Abstract |
A females premature baby was delivered with evisceration of internal organs such as liver, stomach, small and large intestines at Severance Hospital. Umbilical cord was normally located just below the defect. The defect was about 6 cm in diameter above umbilicus. There was no membrane enclosing the eviscerated organs but yellowish exudate was attached to exposed surface. The margin of defect was fully thickened defect about 2~3 mm in thickness.
Surgical repair was tried but failed, because she was prematurity (1. 5 kg body weight) and the abdominal cavity was too small to compare with the mass of eviscerated organs. She has died 21 hours after birth in spite of intensive conservative management. Autopsy was performed immediate after death and no other congenital deformities was found except above mentioned evisceration. It was found to be antenatal type according to Moore’s classification. It is the first reported case of gastroschisis in Korea.
