Results : The ratio of male to female was 1.74 : 1. Aseptic meningitis was prevalent in summer and fall. The majority of aseptic meningitis occurred in children between 1 and 5 years of age. The frequency of clinical manifestations was fever, vomiting, headache, and abdominal pain. In peripheral blood examination, leukocytosis(WBC>10,000/mm3) was showed in 67.1% of cases. On CSF examination, WBC count were less than 500/mm3 in 87.4% of case and protein levels were less than 60mg/dl in 91.9% of case and glucose levels were more than 40 mg/dl in 97.9% of case. In CSF virus culture, type nonspecific Enterovirus, Echovirus 9, Echovirus 4, Echovirus 6 was cultured.
Conclusion : There were an epidemic of aseptic meningitis in the Chounju area from July to September in 1996 and from April to June in 1997 and 1998. As for clinical manifestations, CSF examination of aseptic meningitis patients showed no great difference compared to other aseptic meningitis study.
