Abstract |
The study was taken to study the serum transaminase level and it’s correlation with dehydration
in Human Rotavirus gastroenteritis.
129 children, who admitted to the Department of Pediatrics in Chung-Ang University Hospital from
January 1987 to December 1989 with chief complaints of fever, vomiting, and watery diarrhea were
included in this studies. The stool specimen on admission was tested for Rotavirus Ag by ELISA
method . And then Serum transminase were checked.
The results are as follows:
1) Rotavirus Antigens were detected in 88 cases (68.22%) among total 129 patients with gas-
troenteritis.
2) AST elevation above the normal value in HRV group was 77.3% (68/88). ALT elevation above
the normal value in HRV group was 54.6% (48/88).
3) AST elevation above 仕le normal value in Non-HRV group was 73.2% (30/41). ALT elevation
above the normal value in Non-HRV group was 46.3% (19/41).
4) AST elevation between two groups was not correlated statistically. But ALT concentration was
significantly increased in HRV group above normal than Non-HRV group. (p<0.05)
5) Mean concentration of AST in HRV group was 43.0IU/L, IN Non-HRV group 37.9IU/L.
Mean concentration of ALT in HRV group was 40.6 IU/L, in Non-HRV group 31.3 IU/L.
6) Mean concentration of AST between two groups was not correlated statistically. But mean
concentration of ALT was significantly increased in HRV group than Non-HRV group. (p<0.05)
7) In HRV group, mild dehydration was detected in 18.2%, moderate dehydration was 68.2% of
cases. Serum electrolyte (sodium) was isotonic mostly in both group.
8) In Non-HRV group, mild dehydration was detected in 26.8%, moderate dehydration was 46.3%
of cases.
9) The degree of dehydration was not correlated with serum transaminase level in both group. |
