Abstract
Right diaphrgmatic movement was recorded in 25 neontes when asleeping or in quietly awake state. Using 5-MHz transducer of Aloka 860 color echocardiography we measured those in the supine flat, supine head up, supine head down and prone flat positions.
Results
were as follows: 1) Normative data of right hemidiaphragmatic movement of 25 neonates were obtained in the positions. 2) Deaphragmatic movement of posterior third was significantly greater than any other segment in supine flat and supine head up positions (p<0.05). In supine head down position posterior third also showed greater movement without statistical significance. In prone flat position movement of each segment was not differentiated but posterior third showed rather smallest excursion. 3) Among the 4 positions examined anterior third of diaphragm showed greatest excursion in the prone position but without statistical significance. And posterior third showed greatest excursion in supine position and smallest excursion in prone in position.
