Abstract |
This study was designed to assess the accuracy of pulmonary (Qp) and systemic blood flow (Qs) and
the ratio of pulmonary to systemic blood flow (Qp/Qs) measured by non-invasive range-gated pulsed
Doppler echocardiography. Thirty five children with congenital heart disease, aged 4 months to 15
years, admitted for cardiac operation to this hospital, were studied. Cardiac outputs were measured
by 2-dimensional range-gated pulsed Doppler echocardiography simultaneously with Fick method
during cardiac catheterization.
High correlations were found between the estimates of Qp (r=0.80, y=1.10x=2.93, p<0.001), Qs (r=
0.95, y=0.92x+2.20, p< 0.001) and Qp/Qs ratio (r=0.86, y=1.22x+0.40, p< 0.001) by Doppler and Fick
method .
The results indicate that cardiac output and Qp/Qs ratio of the patients with congenital heart
disease can be relatively accurately measured by non-invasive range-gated pulsed Doppler echocar-
diography. |
