hundred and six cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma were seen during the same period.
1) Burkitt lymphoma accounted for 16% of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
2) The age ranged from 10/12 year to 15 5/12 years, with mean age of 6 years.
3) The ratio of male to female was 3.3:1 and boys were more prevalent than girls.
4) Involed sites were abdomen in 14 cases, head and neck in 6 cases, ovary and uterus in 3 cases,
CNS in 3 cases, bone in 1 case, pleural fluid in 4 cases, and ascites in 3 cases.
5) Clinical stage by Murphy’s classification consisted of 2 stage Ⅰ (11.8%), 2 stage Ⅱ(11.8%), 4 stage
Ⅲ (23.5%), 9 stage Ⅳ (52.9%).
6) Bone marrow involvement at initial diagnosis was seen in 8 out of 17 cases (47.1%) and CNS
involvement was seen in 2 out of 14 cases (14.3%).
7) Treatment consisted of 6 chemotherapy only, 6 chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and 3
surgery and chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
Remission rate was 80% and relapse rate was 42%. The longest relapse free survival time was 4
4/12 years, and 4 cases survived over one year without relapse. Acute tumor lysis syndrome was seen
in 8 cases, but 4 cases survived. |
