Abstract |
Clinical and hemodynamic data were evaluated and analyzed in 31 cases of ventricular septal defect
with septal aneurysm which were confirmed by 2-D echocardiography and left ventriculography at
Kyungpook National University Hospital during the period of one year from June, 1985 to June, 1986
Septal aneurysms were found in 31 (41.9%) of 74 cases of total VSD (30 cases in membranous VSD
and one case in A-V canal type VSD) and in 54.5% among membranous VSD.
The youngest age when septal aneurysm was detected was 15 months.
The incidence was highest in VSD patients over 10 years of age without any significant difference
in incidence between male and female.
There were 10 cases (32.3%) of ventricular hypertrophy with EKG, 1 case (3.2%) of cardiomegaly
and 3 cases (9.7%) of increased pulmonary vascularity with chest X-ray.
Qp/Qs in cases with septal aneurysm was significantly smaller than in those cases without septal
aneurysm (p<0.05) and there was decrease in Qp/Qs (p<0.01) and Pp/Ps (p<0.05) without any
significant difference in Rp/Rs by increasing age.
The detection rate of the septal aneurysm by 2-D echocardiography was 91.3% in comparison with
the previous golden standard study, left ventriculography.
