Abstract
From October 1984 to June 1985, 115 children aged 3 to 15 years with one month or more history of recurrent or persistent cough and a water’s sinus radiograph presenting greater than 6 mm mucosal thickening or opacification or air fluid level in one or both maxillary sinuses were analyzed & following results were obtained. 1)Most cases were aged 3 to 8 years(84%). 2)Sex ratio of male to female was 1.6:1. 3)The observed main clinical symptoms and sign were nasal discharge(55.1%) nasalobstruction(42.8%) & fever(42.8%). 4) Differential eosinophil counts over 5% was 11.2% and IgE level over 200lU/ml was 26.6%. 5) The initial Water’s radiographic view demonstrated the following abnormalities:a) mucosal thickening(37.8%), b) opacification(57.1%), c) air fluid level(5.1%). 6) Symptom of nasal obstruction was commonly seen in those witn X-ray change of opacification. 7) At end of 2 weeks of antibiotics treatment, radogaphically improved cases demonstrated the following results: Amoxicllin(72.5%), Ampicillin(45.2%), Trimethoprim Sulfamethoxazole(60%), Erythromycin (14.2%).
