Abstract |
Sixty five cases of complete transposition of the great arteries were diagnosed at Seoul National University Hospital from August 1980 to August 1984. Among them, 44 cases visited our hospital before 1 year of age and 21 cases after 1 year of age. Sex ratio was 3.3 : 1. Type III (with ventricular septal defect) was more prevalent in our cases and had a proportion of 52.3%. The proportion of type I (intact ventricular septum) was 26.2%. Mortality rate of 57 cases (lost cases were excluded) was 50.9% and that of 38 cases who visited before 1 year of age was 60.5% and that of 19 cases who visited after 1 year of age was 31.6%. When lost cases were excluded, type I had a mortality rate of 46.7% and type II 0.0%. The mortality rate of type III was 56.7% and that of type IV was 50,0%. Total atrial corrective surgery were done in 34 cases. Early surgical mortality rate was 38.2% and late surgical mortality rate was 14.7%.
