Abstract
The authors studied 26 cases with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura who were admitted to Department of Pediatrics Hanyang University Hospital. The results were as follows: 1)The peak incidence of age was 5 to 7 years old. Male to female ratio was 2.7 : 1 which showed: slight male preponderance. 2)lThe most prevalent seasons were spring and summer. In both seasons, the most prevalent month was May and July, respectively. 3)The 10 cases had the antecedent illnes. Among them, the upper respiratory infection, comprising 70%, was the most common illness. 4)The most common symptoms were petechiae and ecchymoses. 5)Hematologic findings showed hrombocytopenia in all cases, but hemoglobin levels an leukocyte counts were within normal limits. 6) The bone marrow findings showed normal or increased megakaryocyte in all cases. 7)There were prolonged bleeding time and positive Rumpel-Leede test in most of the cases. 8)After the treatment with prednisone, 14 cases(54%) showed increase in platelet count over 100,000/mms within 1 month.
