Abstract
From June 1974 to June 1983, 106 cases of child epileptic patients were clinically investigated at the Department of Pediatrics, Chosun University Hospital, and the following results were obtained. 1)Epilepsy had the highest incidence in children from 5 to 9 years (32.1%), and the next was from 9 to 16 years (21.7%). 2)Male to female ratio was 1.3 : 1. 3)The incidence of family history in convulsion was 7,5%. 4) The incidence of febrile convulsion in past history was 10.4%. 5)The clinical types of epilepsy, in order of frequency, were grand mal (68.9%), focal seizure (14.1%), myoclonic seizure (4.7%), psychomotor seizure (3.8%), infantile spasm (3.8%), petit mal (2.8%), and akinetic seizure (1.9%). 6)The presumed causes of epilepsy, in order of frequency, were head injury (5.7%), neonatal hypoxia (5.7%), birth trauma (1.9%), meningitis (1.9%) and prematurity (0.9%). 7)The abnormal EEG finding in epilepsy was found in 82.1%.
