Abstract
Clinical observation about 122 neonates of elderly primiparas above 35 years old was atte- mpted on 19,927 neonates, who were delivered at II Sin Women’s Hospital during 3 years from January 1979 to December 1980. Incidences, birth characteristics, maternal history and perinatal complications were compared- with control group of neonates of primiparas under 35 years old. The results obtained were as follows; 1) The incidence was 0.61%, as 122 cases among a total of 19,927 deliveries. 2) Maternal age distribution was among 35 to 44 years of age. 3) By mode of delivery the frequency of cesarean section delivery was 50 cases compared to the control group which had 5 cases, and so statistically significant. 4) Uncomplicated pregnancy was 17 cases compared to the control group which had 30cases, and so statistically significant. 5) The neonates who had low Apgar scores less than 7 at one minute were 27 cases compared to the control group which had 12 cases, and so statistically significant. 6) The neonates who had congenital anomaly, low birth weight, and small for gestational age were relatively higher incidence than the control group. 7) Perinatal mortality rate was about 5 times higher than the control group.
