Abstract |
Authors made clinical observation on 29 cases of congenital syphilis, who were born from 54 cases of syphilitic mothers, at the St. Paul's Hospital from Jan. 1976 to Dec. 1980. The results were as follows. 1. The incidence of syphilis among the admitted pregnant women for delivery was 0.9%. 2. The incidence of neontal syphilis from the 54 syphilitic mothers was 53.7%. 3. Among the 54 syphilitic pregnant women, only 16.7% of them were treated properly. 4. The incidence of pretermneonate and low birth weight neonate were 55.1% and 62.0% among 29 cases of congenital syphilis. 5. The principal clinical features of congenital syphilis were hepatosplenomegaly, skin manifestation, jaundice and poor sucking. 6. The mortality rate of congenital syphilis during neonatal period was 13.8%. 7. The concentration of VDRL titer of patientsa ppeared to have positive relationship with the degree of clinical manifestations. |
