A Clinical Study on Infectious Hepatitis in Children |

Abstract |
75 children with infectious hepatitis who were admitted to the pediatric department of the Hanyang University Hospital from May 1, 1972 to Nov. 30, 1975 were clinically analizedL and we report the following result.
1)Infectious hepatitis occupied 1.94% of total in-patients at same period. 2) The peak age incidence was between 3 and 5 years of age (41. 2%). 3)The sex icidence revealed a male predominance with the ratio of 2. 3 : 1. 4)The peak seasonal incidence was in winter (36.1%). 5)The residential district of the patients was that of densely crowded population in most: cases (72.8%). 6)The chief complaints on admission were anorexia(42. 8%), abdominal pain(41. 2%), dark, urine (40.0%), nausea and vomiting (38.8%), and general malaise (32.0%).
7)The physical findings on admission were hepatomegaly (100%), icteric sclera (64. 0%), fever (60.0%), abdominal tenderness〔51.5%), bradycardia (26.6%), and splenomegaly(8.0%). 8)The hematologic findings were as follows: total leukocyte count was within normal limit in most cases (84.0%). The relative lymphocytosis was noted in 53. 0% of the patients. The ESR was increased in most cases (72.7%). 9) In urinalysis, bile was positive in 62% and urobilinogen in 26.4% of the patients. 10)In liver function test, SGPT and thymol turbidity was increased in all cases bilirubin in 88.9%, and alkaline phosphatase in 48. 4% of the cases. 11)The electrophoretic pattern of the serum protein revealed increase of globulin fraction, in 51.2% of the cases with no remarkable change in other fraction. 12)The prognosis was as follows: 67 cases (89.3%) improved clinically, 6 cases (8. discharged against advice with or without clinical improvement, and 2 cases (2.7%) expired, with fulminating hepatitis.
