Abstract
An analysis presented of 130 cases of acute glomerulonephritis in Korean children under the 15 years of age, treated at the Ped. ward and out-patient clinic, Ewha Womans University Hospital from Jan. 1, 1968 to Aug. 31, 1973. The following finding were noted: 1) The male to female ratio was 1 : 1. Between the age of 7 and 9 years showed an highest age incidence as 21. 5%. Monthly distribution revealed as high in autumn and winter. 2) The 73.1% of total patient had a preceeding factors. Upper respiratory infection was most common (61. 5%) among them. 3) The most common chief complaint was edema in 95. 5%. The others were hematuria (69. 2%), cough(27.6%), headache (22. 3%), fever (20. 0%) in oders. 4) Edema was the most prevalent physical sign in 95. 5%. The others were hypertension (56.9%), pharyngeal congestion (4Q. 0%), enlarged liver (33. 0%) in orders. 5) Anti-streptolysin O titer was increased in 66% of the total patient and C-reacitve protein was negative in 91% of the total cases. 6) Percentage of the positive culture by the throat swab was 58.9% of the total patient. The beta-hemolytic streptococcus was obtained in 19.2%. 7) Microscopic hematuria became normalized in 26% within 2 weeks and 65% within 4 weeks. 8) Similarly to finding for microscopic hematuria, there was a subsequent disappearance of protenuria in 18.1% within 2 weeks and 53.1% within 4 weeks. 9) Erythrocyte sedimentation rate was normalized in 28. 6% within 1 month, and 70.6% from 2 to 3 months after onset. 10) Blood pressure was followed to be observed in the cases over than 90mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. It was almost normalized within 1 week. 11) Increased body weight due to edema began to decrease from the 3 days after receving an appropriate treatments.
