Abstract
We observed 129 cases of tuberculous meningitis that were admitted to the department of pediatrics, Kyungpook National University Hospital during the 9 years from January, 1964 to December, 1972. The results were as follows: 1) The annual incidence of patient was not decreased. 2) The seasonal incidence was highest in spring 3) The age incidence was highest in the age of 1 to 2, and 74. 5% were under the age of 6 year. 4) In 31% of the 129 Cases, we found the source of infection among family members and most of them both parents. 5) At the time of admission, vomiting and fever were the most common complaints. 6) Evidence of tuberculosis outside the meninges was found in 69.8 % of Cases. A roentgenogram of chest was normal in 30. 8% and miliary tuberculosis in 11.5%. 7) During hospitalization clinically favorable responses were obtained with treatment (I.N.H, P.A.S., streptomycin and corticosteroid) in 65 cases (50. 4%), and 35 cases (19.4%) died. 8) In 9 Cases of the neurological sequelae, seizure was seen in 4 cases, hemipbgia in 2 Cases and personality disorder in 2 cases.
