Abstract |
The assays of serum CPK activity were performed on specimens of cord blood and corresponding
venous blood obtained within the 2nd day postpartum in 48 normal neonates which were allocated
equally into the delivered group by cesarean section, normal spontaneous delivery group and
vacuum extracted delivery group.
The present shudies were done with aims to investigate the influence upon the neonate during
birth according to the types of delivery.
The results were as follows.
1. The CPK activity of blood obtained within the 2nd day postpartum is higher than that of cord blood.
2. The CPK activity in the serum of normal neonetes'is elevated than that of adult.
3. The average serum CPK activity in cord blood was 11.7士6. (Sigma Unit and that in venous
blood was 29 ±12. 6 Sigma Unit.
4. The serum CPK activity in vaginally delivered neonates is greater than that in neonate born
by cesarean section.
These findings suggest that the trauma of natural birth may be responsible in part for the deviation of
CPK activity in neonates. And it is therefore proposed that the assays of serum CPK activity
in the neonates are worthy as an indicator of fetal trauma during birth.
