Abstract |
Since 1962, the Author and associates studid on the rabbits brain systematically and demonstrated that the
3 areas in the cortex》6 areas in the thalamus and hypothalamus and 6 areas in the midbrain showed osmo
receptic function by the osmotic stimulation, however the mechanisms remain unknown.
The urine amount of the rabbits stimulated with hypertonic solution directly in these areas decreased
promptly and markedly. And these phenomenon might be due to the release of ADH from the hypothalamus
and neurohypophysis.
However it is. hardly to think that the prompt and marked diuresis following the injection of H2O in the
above areas have resulted from the inhibition of release of ADH and or prompt depletion of ADH in the
circulation. Therefore I began to wonder if some another factor, possibly due to an unidentified hormone
such as diuretic hormone must be involved.
The present study was designed to examine the question of whether or not there is a diuretic humoral
substance involved in the regulation of urine excretion. Korean white male rabbits (Lepus cuniculus Linne’ Var.
domistics Gmelin) weighing exactly 1.8 kg were used for this work.
They were well hydrated orally by gaveging with 100 cc of 2% sodium chloride solution three times at
one hour interval to maintain positive water balance throught each study.
Osmotic stimulation was applied with distilled water in amount of 0.05 ml each injected into the anterior
hypothalamus bilaterally using stereotaxic apparatus.Urine was collected through a indwelling catheter
while the rabbits was placed on the holder.
