Abstract |
The authors observed clinically 128 cases o£ acute glomerulonephritis in Korean children under 16 years of age, treated at the pediatric ward and out-patient clinic, National Medical Center, during the period from Jan. 1959 to Dec. 1966. The results are as follows: 1) The total incidence was 0. 23% and the male to female ratio was 1. 3 : 1. About half of the cases were between the age of 6 years and 9 years, the highest age group was 6 years of age, and then, 7 years, and 9 years of age in order of frequency. 2)The 6 months from September to February was accounted for about 80% o£ the cases, October and November were the highest months of incidence. 3)Preceding factors; upper respiratory infection, sore throat, and/or acute tonsillitis and etc., could be elicited in 65. 7% of cases. 4)Fourty percent of cases presented their symptoms of nephritis within 1 week after the preceding factor,, most of them (72%) presented between 5 days to 15 days. 5) Blood pressure was followed to be observed in 59 cases, 91.5% became normalized in blood pressure within 4 weeks from the onset. 6)Of the 85 cases (66. 4%) with elevated sedimentation rate, 83% of cases dropped within normal during 2 months after onset. 7)Microscopic hematuria was found in 75. 2%, and proteinuria in 82%. No more hematuria could
be seen in 37.1% after 1 month, and 65. 5% after 2 months but persisted in few as long as 4 months. Proteinuria disappeared in 49. 6% within the 1st month, and 72. 3% within the 2nd month, and all but few within 4th month. 8)The positive culture o£ beta-hemolytic streptococcus by throat swab was obtained in 10 cases out
of 77 cases. 9) The anti-streptolysin-O titer was elevated in 83. 4% of the cases, the highest titer observed was
3,800 units/ml. |
