Abstract |
A number of factors producing physiologic leukocytosis may be considered. Among those many considered factors, I have studied the relation between the meal and leukocytosis. A total of 40 patients aged
2 months to 12 years whose general, ^condition were relatively good, were randomly chosen as the object
o£ study and analized for the number of leukocytes and its differential counts with age, sex, and each
disease. The results are as follows
1) In under 1 year aged group, the number of leukocytes increased prominantly in 1 hour after feeding
with some differences according to the sex and the lymphocytes increased while the absolute value of
polymorphonuclear leukocytes was stationary in differential counts.
2) In esophageal atresia the number of leukocytes showed the peak in 1 hour after feeding. Although
the patient was under 1 year of age, polymorphonuclear leukocytes increased in differential counts.
3) In both 1 〜6 year and 7〜 12 year aged groups, there was no difference between male and female
in increasing the number of leukocytes in 1 hour after feeding. In comparison to the under 1 year of
aged group, polymophonuclear leukocytes increased while the absolute value of lymphocytes was stationary
in differential. 4) Both nephrotic syndrome and encephalopathy (maily tuberculous meningitis) showed the number of leukocyte's peak in 2 hour after feeding and not only polymorphonuclear leukocytesis but also lymphocytosis in differential counts.
5) In typhoid fever, the number of leukocytes rather decreased in 1 hour after feeding than before
feeding however, the number of leukocytes increased in 2 hour after feeding more than before feeding.
Although the patients were over 1 year aged group, lymphocytes increased prominuntly in differential
counts. To sum up, the experiments show that the number of leukocytes increase in 1 hour after feeding with
some differences according to the age and sex; In differential counts, under 1 year aged group the lymphocytes increase and over 1 year aged group the polymorphonuclear leukocytes increase.
There are some differences in increasing the number of leukocytes in 1 hour after feeding according
to the kinds of disease.
