Abstract |
Dermatitis exfoliativa neonatorum was reported for the first time by Ritter von Rittershain, and
it has been known as Ritter's disease.
A case of Ritter’s disease in 14 day-old male infant was presented.
Seven days before admission an area of erythema with serous discharge was noted at right buttock
which was spreaded over the trunk, extremities, neck and face with formation of blisters.
The skin was often desquamated in sheets and undenuded skin was easily removed by a touch or
friction (Nikolsky’s sign).
Culture of the discharge showed staphylococcus which was sensitive to terramycin, tetracycline,
erythromycin, novobiocin and TAO.
The patient was successfully treated with sterile dressing changes, specific antibiotics and conser-vative measures.
Clinico pathology and brief discussion were reviewed according to literature.
