Citrobacter freundii have been reported infrequently as a cause of meningitis. And, among bacteria
that cause meningitis, Citrobacter is unique in its propensity to produced brain abscess. But the
pathogenesis of Citrobacter meningitis and brain abscess in humans is unknown. The high prevalance
of brain abscess in infants with Citrobacter meningitis mandates cranial computed tomography in
every case.
