Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is an X-linked recessive disorder characterized by hyperuricemia, choreoathetosis, spasticity, mental retardation, and compulsive, self-injurious behavior. This disorder results from a complete deficiency of the purine salvage enzyme, hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase(HPRT).
