Purpose : Drowning is the second most common cause of accidental death in children,
exceeded only by motor vehicle accidents. The purpose of the present study was to
investigate the prognostic factors of near-drowning in children, such as age, sex, season,
site of submersion, and initial clinical or laboratory manifestrations, and to formulate
