Abstract |
A 14-year-old Korean boy with Addison's disease probably of tuberculosis origin is presented with a brief review of the literature.
The patient was admitted to our hospital on July, 23th, 1990, because of dark brown pigmentation of the skin, mucous membrane and nail beds.
On physical examination, he was moderately developed, relatively poorly nourished. Skin and mucous membranes were diffusely dark brown, especially over the face, gingiva, tongue, both elbow and nail beds of hands and feet. Laboratory studies showed neutropenia, relative lymphocytosis, low serum cortisol, high ACTH concentration and low 24 hours urinary 17-OHCS. ACTH stimulation test(rapid I.M. ACTH TEST) failed to rise the plasma cortisol level. |
