Abstract
Angiodysplasia(AD) of the gastrointestinal(GI) tract in children is a very rare cause of bleeding and thought to be a distinct clinicopathologic entity distingishing from the classic adult-type AD by its different clinical settings and diverse histology. We report two cases of AD involving the sigmoid colon in children. The cases, 6-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy, were preoperatively suspected by colonoscopy and both were confir-med by postoperative pathologic examinations. They were not associated with angiomatous lesions of the skin or other viscera. They underwent an segmental resection of the part, based on the intraoperative endoscopic findings. Small hemorrhagic polypoid lesions, multiple pete-chiae and ulcers were noted grossly. Microscopically, they showed irregularly dilated vascular channels in the submucosa with a varying degree of hemorrhage in the lamina propria.. These cases are peculiar for their locations and developing ages. All cases were in good health without further bleeding after local resection.
