Abstract |
The author has analysed 1080 cases of Pediatric patients visited Pediatric or psychiatric depart-
ment for behavioral, emotional, or Psychiatric problems, from July 1982 to June 1987. The patients
were categorized into three groups to observe the distribution of age, sex and disease, and the relation
of symptom and disease, 127 cases consulted to Psychiatric department, 356 cases visited Psychiatric
department directly, and 597 cases managed in Pediatric department.
The results were as follows:
1) In the cases visited Psychiatric department directly, the middle school age group was predomi-
nant, and in cases managed in the Pediatric department, the predominant groups were preschool and
low grade elementary school age.
2) the major reasons for consult to Psychiatric department were somatic complaints (46.5%), speech
disorder, and tic in the order of frequency, and its psychiatric diagnosis were neurotic disorder (28.3
%), physical condition arising from mental factor and specific delay in the development of speech in
the order of frequency.
3) In the summary of all cases visited Psychiatric department, the most common diagnosis was
physical condition arising from mental factor (28.9%) and the other frequent diagnosis were mental
retardation, special symptom and neurotic disorder in the order of frequency. In the cases visitied
Psychiatric department directly, neurotic disorder was most common and, in the cases visited
Pediatric department, physical condition arising from mental factor was most common.
4) As discussing the relation between age and disease, in the cases visited Psychiatric department
directly, the specific delay in the develpment of speech and psychoses with origin specific to childhood
were more common in preschool children where as special symptom and mental retardation being
more common in low grade elementary school age and neurotic disorder, in the middle school age. In
the cases managed in the Pediatric department, mental retardation, and specific delay in the develop-
ment of speech were more common in preschool and low grade elementary school age, where as tic
being more common in high grade elementary school and middle school age and tension headache
being more common in middle school age. In male, specific symptom, tic and specific dealy in
develpment of speech were more common and, in female physical condition arising from metnal
factor and neurotic disorder. |
